Beth Kelso
Born in America, I came to Scotland in 1978 to marry and have lived, raised a family and worked here since.
I have always had an interest in healing and the natural. Having seen the benefits and limitations of allopathic medicine in the treatment of my son´s leukaemia, I realised that a more holistic approach to life and medicine might benefit me and others.
After discovering Reiki "by accident", I have since gained qualifications in Reflexology and Bio-Energy. I plan to become a Reiki Master in winter 2005/06 and to study Indian Head Massage in spring 2006.
I see these varied therapies as tools in my tool kit. They enable me to be a therapist who can offer a holistic range of therapies to people to compliment allopathic therapies and treatments.
Katrina:
As Beth has said, together we nurtured our idea of one day opening up a shop called Sparklies N Stuff.
Like many people out there Beth and I have been on many shopping trips seeking the out of the way little shops that stocked the more unusual items that we loved. It was on these trips that we would talk about the kinds of products we would sell if we had a shop. We would come across a shop with some particularly nice pieces of interest and we would say to each other "oh we must stock this".
Then one day we decided that it would be more than just a shop it would also offer complementary therapies. I had discovered Reiki and the idea grew from there. I came to Reiki not knowing what it was or what it would do for me. I was just in a bad place at the time and needed to distract my attention away from my troubles. So when another friend asked if I would like to join her on a course weekend I said yes without thinking much of it. Since then I am happy to say attending that course was the best thing I have ever done. I was already interested, and dabbling a bit, in the world of metaphysics and spirituality and Reiki seemed to connect all the bits together. Reiki has been like the pencil you use to complete a join the dots drawing. Reiki has helped me discover what the picture is I'm drawing and its now time, as a Lightworker, to help others find their own sparkle.
And so our road to complementary therapy opened up before us. We both do Reiki, although I became a Master in July 2004, and we both do Bio Energy, just as soon as I qualify in January 2006. And like Beth I would like to learn Indian Head Massage next year. However, I am also interested in making jewellery; I already dabble a bit (check out a small selection available for purchase on our website soon), and would love to do a course to learn more techniques. So it may be a toss up which one I do first.
